PERSINGER ARREST

3/3/25

On December 28th the Clay County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint relating to an individual harassing minors by electronic means.  During the investigation, a deputy was led to also investigate possible violations relating to the Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act.  The investigation was turned over to State’s Attorney Phillip Givens for consideration of charges.  On February 24th State’s Attorney Givens obtained an arrest warrant relating to this investigation.

On Thursday at approximately 3:10 pm the Flora Police Officers observed Michael W. Persinger, 43, of Flora, who had multiple Clay County Warrants, on foot in the 500 Block of Main Street.  When officers attempted to approach Persinger he fled on foot for approximately 2 blocks, until he was apprehended by Flora Police Officers and was transported to the Flora Police Department.

Persinger was later transported to the Clay County Jail where he is currently being held without bond on two Clay County Warrants for the new offense of Unlawful Failure of Sex Offender to Notify Change of Address and a Contempt Warrant relating to the previous offenses.  This matter remains an ongoing investigation by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Flora Police Department.

The charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
