BURGLARY SUSPECT ARRESTED

On Tuesday at approximately 4:51 am the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary alarm at Gatsby Gaming in, Louisville.  Upon the arrival of the deputy located damage to a front door and determined that the suspect(s) had fled from the scene on a side by side.  Before fleeing the suspect(s) damaged gaming machines and an ATM inside the business.  Deputies were able to quickly develop a suspect with the assistance of the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 9:47 am deputies responded to address in southern Effingham County with Effingham County Deputies where the suspect was believed to be located.  When deputies arrived, they took the suspect into custody and impounded a 2015 Polaris Ranger, which was later determined to be stolen.  The suspect was on Pretrial Release (Safety-Act) at the time of the incident and had removed his GPS Monitor.  The suspect was transported to Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

As a result of this investigation Nathan D. Williams, 49, of Mason, was arrested and later charged in Clay County Court for the offenses of Burglary, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Criminal Damage to Property over $10,000.  Williams appeared in court on Wednesday and was denied Pretrial Release.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Clay County State’s Attorney Phillip Givens’ Office, Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, the Effingham County State’s Attorney’s Office and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Tech Services.

The charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
