ACES COMPETITION WINNERS 2/17/25 Students
from 12 area high schools participated in the 2025 Academic Challenge for
Engineering and Science Competition at Olney Central College. The state-wide
event is sponsored by Eastern Illinois University. Division
300 schools competing this year were; Clay City, Edwards County, Hutsonville,
Lawrenceville, Oblong and Palestine. Division
700 schools were: Flora, Fairfield Community, Mt. Carmel, Newton Community and
Robinson. Division
300 first-place winner was Oblong. Edwards County placed second and
Lawrenceville finished third. Robinson
won in Division 700, Mt. Carmel finished second and Newton Community placed
third. The
first- and second-place teams in each division will advance to the next level. Individual
awards were also presented in each division. The award categories were
Biology, Chemistry, Computational Science, Engineering Graphics, English, Math
and Physics. Winning
for Clay City in Division 300, Computational Science, was Johnnie Mooney of
Clay City who took First place, Tied for second was Mason Morehead of Clay City.
Tied for third place in Engineering Graphics was Jaxon Prochazka of Clay City. In
Division 700 winning 3rd place in Chemistry was Loralei Griffith of
Flora. Tied for second in Physics was, Michael Gill of Flora and tied for
third, Adam Pietz of Flora. Illinois
Eastern Community Colleges awarded tuition waivers to graduating seniors who
placed first in their exam category. The first- and second-place winners
advance to the next level of competition as individuals if their team isn’t
advancing.
